How to Use Friday Spelling Test Paper

1

Choose Line Count

Select 10, 15, 20, or 25 lines to match your classroom's weekly spelling list length. The 2-column layout ensures clean, wide writing space on a single page.

2

Select Line Ruling

Use Primary Dotted Midline for early elementary grades (K–2) to guide ascenders and descenders, or clean Single Line for upper grades (3–6).

3

Print Blank or Key

Print blank numbered sheets for student assessment, or paste your word list and toggle Teacher Dictation Key to generate a filled reference sheet.

Pedagogical Line Ruling Guidance

Primary Dotted Midline (Grades K–2)

In kindergarten through second grade, orthographic motor control is developing. A top solid headline, dashed midline, and solid baseline provide clear spatial boundaries.

  • Prevents oversized lowercase letters
  • Differentiates tall letters (t, d, b) from small letters (a, c, e)
  • Provides clear hanging space for descenders (g, j, p, q, y)

Single Handwriting Baseline (Grades 3–6)

By third grade, students transition to notebook and standard single-line paper. The single baseline simulates everyday test and journal formats while maintaining generous line height.

  • Matches state standardized writing formats
  • Allows faster handwriting speed during weekly dictation
  • Includes margin score cues and teacher hint areas
